The satellite radio company has renamed its traditional country music channel "Willie's Place" and handed the creative reins over to Nelson. The deal also calls for Nelson to contribute exclusive content to the channel.
XM has also committed to building studios at Willie Nelson's BioDiesel Truck Stop in Carl's Corner, Texas. "Willie's Place" will begin broadcasting July 10, and the channel will begin broadcasting live from Carl's Corner in 2007.
"I've been a fan of XM and Hank's Place since the very beginning," Nelson said in a statement. "They put a lot of thought and hard work into making the channel sound as good as it does, so I feel privileged to be a part of it."
Nelson is hosting his annual Fourth of July Picnic concert this weekend, and XM will broadcast the concert, now in its 33rd year, on its progressive country channel X Country (XM 12) on July 4 from 12 noon until 12 midnight ET.
The concert will include performances by Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, David Allen Coe, Ray Price, Billy Joe Shaver, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Leon Russell, Randy Rogers Band, Harmonic Tribe, Shooter Jennings, and others.
