My Chemical Romance speaks

New Jersey punk-pop rockers say an unspecified incident that occurred during the filming of a music video left two band members with serious injuries.

With rumors swirling about why they cancelled their appearance at last weekend's Street Scene festival in San Diego, My Chemical Romance addressed the matter on its Web site today.

Immediately after bailing from the huge music festival at the last minute, the band blamed "unforeseen circumstances." But rumors began circulating on the Internet that the band had been involved in a car accident that injured its members.

In a posting on the band's Web site, My Chemical Romance said it wasn't a car accident but an unspecified incident that occurred during filming of a music video August 3, one day before the festival, which left two band members injured.

"[Frontman] Gerard [Way] tore multiple ligaments in his ankle and [drummer] Bob [Bryar] received a bad burn to the back of his leg," the band wrote. "After seeing doctors, we decided to give it our all and rehearse on Friday night. This proved impossible. The pain was overwhelming and we could not pull through without further injuring ourselves."

Both band members are expected to make complete recoveries. My Chemical Romance's as-yet-untitled new album is due October 24 via Reprise.

"We hate canceling shows, especially now that we are done recording and just want to play," the band wrote. "So there you have it, there were no car wrecks, monster attacks, or alien abductions, but there were serious injuries."
