Thanks to improved production, as well as the band's musical development, The Coming of Chaos is the best Sacramentum release available, not to mention their first domestic album. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
Report: Ads coming to iTunes
Advertising industry mag says Apple is looking to open up the bottom left corner of its digital-download store to advertising.
Less than a week after Apple said its iTunes Music Store had reached profitability on its own for the first time, the company is reportedly thinking about allowing ads in iTunes for the first time.
Ad Age reported today that iTunes is considering opening up the "Now Playing" window at the bottom left corner of its iTunes interface for advertising during podcast playback only.
But the report says that move could begin a slippery slope for the dominant digital music store on the market.
Apple executives wouldn't comment. But because Apple has allowed ad-supported podcasts to date, the report indicates that the introduction of visual ads could be the first step to allowing ads in other content areas or on iPods themselves.
Apple is working with content partner ESPN, which places audio ads in the sports programming giants' popular, according to the report.
"We are looking at new technology that will provide a much richer advertising experience and hope to roll that out very soon," ESPN's Marc Horne told the magazine.
The move comes as video content players like the major broadcast and cable networks begin to offer ad-supported streams of popular shows in their Web sites.
In May and June, ABC will offer free versions of shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives on its own site with ads that can't be skipped, for instance.
