Darrell Burgan, known as Palancar, began with classical piano lessons as a child, which, he says on his website, was a big factor in his musical maturation. He switched to playing by ear once he began creating his own compositions and then developed his interest in drums as a teenager and performed in his first band at age 15. He also participated actively in church and school choirs through high school. He's been writing original music and lyrics ever since and believes all artists should perform their own material.
Graduation, college, and life changes took him away from music until his mid-thirties when he met his second wife, Virginia, who re-inspired him. Then, "on a whim," he got a Kurzweil keyboard, "for fun." The fun has led to the creation of his own Blue Water Studio, dubbed "The Church of the Holy Vintage Synthesizer," and the release of multiple albums, debuting with The Other Side, as he reworked his earlier material and composed new songs. Burgan has built up a collection of over a dozen synths, with a vast array of effects, to create his music from.
