MP3 News Breakers: Jacko, DMX, Avril, Hanson, ODB, MTV

Jackson, ex-wife reach custody deal; DMX has beef with sound man; Lavigne apologizes for spitting incident; Hanson eldest marries; ODB's wife looks to lay claim to royalties; Dashboard Confessional singer gets MTV gig.

Jacko, Rowe agree on custody terms

Jackson and Rowe in happier times. Jackson and Rowe in happier times.

The lengthy child custody battle between Michael Jackson and ex-wife Debbie Rowe has ended, with Rowe's lawyer announcing that the two sides have reached a settlement. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, however, so it is unclear how the couple resolved the dispute over their two children, Michael Jr. and Paris. Jackson married Rowe in 1996 after meeting her at his dermatologist's office, where she worked. They split in 1999. Rowe gave up her parental rights in 2001, but after Jackson's 2003 arrest on child molestation charges, she filed for custody. Jackson was acquitted of all charges in June of 2005. A judge is expected to approve the custody agreement--which also resolves a 2004 lawsuit in which Jackson accused Rowe of violating a confidentiality agreement--in the coming weeks.

DMX takes on sound man in NY

DMX DMX

Hey sound boy, don't mess with DMX. At Hot 97's Back to School Jam at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, last night, the barking rapper reportedly objected to having his set cut short by the sound man and attacked him. The clash sparked a melee that had fans tossing chairs onto the stage, with one of DMX's posse members tossing a chair back into the crowd, injuring a concert-goer. According to a report in Newsday, the event was almost doomed from the start, with headliner TI disappearing from the bill without notification. The half-filled venue also suffered several lengthy delays, with a set from 50 Cent and G-Unit shortened due to unspecified "security issues."

When DMX's set was cut at the 15-minute mark, he reacted angrily, screaming at the sound man and suddenly leaping down on top of him. Security stepped in to break up the fisticuffs and escorted DMX out of the Long Island venue through a nearby tunnel. But with one headliner a no-show and two others playing truncated sets, angry fans started to toss chairs onto the stage in reponse to water being tossed from the stage by members of DMX's posse. One of those posse members then tossed a chair into the crowd, and a 29-year-old attendee sustained a large gash to the head, according to reports.

Avril apologizes to fans

Whibley and Lavigne Whibley and Lavigne

Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has apologized for spitting at the paparazzi last week, but her apology was not directed at the paparazzi itself. Lavigne issued a statement apologizing after she and her husband, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41, clashed with some of the pesky photographers outside of the Hyde nightclub in Los Angeles last week. In a statement posted to her Web site, Lavigne said she was sorry for her "behavior with the paparazzi" and that she "meant no offense" to her fans. She said she will always go out of her way for fans. She also said her behavior was "a reaction to the persistent attack from the paparazzi" and she said "it's trying at best dealing with their insistent intrusions." Lavigne and Whibley married in July after having dated since early 2004.

Isaac Hanson marries

Hanson Hanson

Isaac Hanson, the eldest of the three Hanson brothers who skyrocketed to fame in 1997 behind the hit "MMMBop," got married over the weekend, People magazine reported. Hanson, 25, wed his 22-year-old girlfriend, Nicole Dufresne, in his Tulsa, Oklahoma, hometown Saturday, the magazine said on its Web site. The marriage makes Hanson the third of the three brothers to marry. Middle brother Taylor Hanson, 23, has three children with his wife of four years, while the youngest of the group, Zachary, 20, tied the knot in June. The trio has long since left its boy band persona behind, recording their upcoming fourth album as independent artists. The trio is also working on a documentary called Strong Enough to Break, which will have its world premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival in Los Angeles later this month.

ODB's wife takes on his ex and five kids

ODB's emA Son Unique/em ODB's A Son Unique

With Ol' Dirty Bastard's posthumous album set to hit stores November 7, his wife, Icelene Jones, is making moves to make sure she doesn't have to share royalties from it with his ex-girlfriend and his five other children. According to the New York Post, Icelene Jones' former lawyer claims that Jones and record producer Richard Flanzer have schemed to keep the Wu-Tang Clan rapper's ex-girlfriend, her child, his four other children and their respective mothers, and even his own mother from seeing any of the millions his new album could generate. In a motion he filed to be released as Jones' lawyer, Mandel says that Jones and Flanzer plan to ink an "extremely restrictive" deal under which all money created by the estate would go to Flanzer, who would then decide how to divvy up the bucks.

But Jones claims that Mandel simply wasn't doing his job over the years in managing ODB's royalties, leaving her and her children "virtually destitute." Since the allegations over the estate surfaced, ODB's mom, Cherry Jones, and manager, Jarred Weisfeld, plan to challenge Icelene as administrator of the estate. Weisfeld scoffed at Icelene's claim of poverty. "Is she destitute? No. She's got a BMW and a Range Rover. I gave her kids $10,000 out of my own pocket last Christmas."

Carrabba to helm Laguna Beach music

Chris Carrabba Chris Carrabba

Dashboard Confessional frontman Chris Carrabba has landed a unique gig with MTV, serving as guest music supervisor for an upcoming episode of its popular reality show Laguna Beach. Carrabba, whose music has previously been featured on the show, is overseeing the music for the October 4 episode. His soundtrack includes "Ageless Beauty" by Stars, "This Isn't Farmlife" by Essex Green, "Lloyd I'm Ready to be Heartbroken" by Camera Obscura, and "Pin Your Wings" by Copeland. Dashboard Confessional track "Currents" will also be featured in the episode. "In an era where everyone makes playlists and mix tapes, it's just a hair cooler to do it to something with visuals," Carrabba told Reuters.
