New Prince album on the way
Multitalented singer inks new one-off deal with Universal Records and plans to release 3121 in 2006; Salma Hayek-directed video for first single debuts next week.
The artist formerly known as a symbol has inked a deal with Universal Records for his next album, set for a 2006 release.
The Purple One is calling the new album 3121 and will precede its release with the first single, "Te Amo Corazon." Actress Salma Hayek directed the video for the song, while actress Mia Maestro (Frida, The Motorcycle Diaries) stars in it. The clip was shot in Marrakech, Morocco.
The video will be released Tuesday via Prince's NPG Music Club site and will air on VH1 the same day.
The new album is Prince's follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2004 studio set Musicology, which went double platinum in January and garnered two Grammys. Musicology tested the methodology used by Billboard and Nielsen Soundscan in collecting album sales data, as the cost of a ticket to each of the 96 live concerts Prince did in 2004 included the cost of the album.
The tour had an average ticket price of $61 and went on to earn $87.4 million, making it the top-grossing tour of the year.
