This CD on the Mille Plateaux label exhibits a curious experiment from hardcore electronica chameleon Panacea. Under the guise of M2, the German producer made this CD of electronic cuts with pure sine tones (a similar method to that used by Ryoji Ikeda and Panasonic). While those acts' work can be austere and somewhat ambient, M2 differs from their artful minimalism by taking the energy levels up a notch. Made of harsh glitches and throbbing tones, this is intelligent dance music with a distinct resemblance to drum'n'bass -- were it stripped of all texture and reduced to pure tone. The jungle tendency of Panacea is apparent throughout; rhythmic abstractions and shape-shifting bass tones make for an engaging listen. Like many of the releases from this label, the music is devoid of any human element. To some, this can make it folk music for the information age -- while others may find it to be clinical in its beat-science studies. ~ Sylvie Harrison, All Music Guide
