Info
A sparkling debut by David Ruffin produced by Johnny Bristol. The title track, "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)," had a throbbing midtempo beat and was aided by the Originals' polished backing vocals. The follow-up could have been better chosen; the excellent "I Got to Find Myself a Brand New Baby" should have received more exposure, as well as "World of Darkness" a whoop-em'-up, emotional powerhouse that Motown thankfully included on Ruffin's Ultimate CD. Either might have fared better than the overblown "I Lost Everything I Ever Loved," which charted but was saddled by unbelievable lyrics. The loping, melodic "My Love is Growing Stronger" has David screaming a la Wilson Pickett. Only two singles were released from this collection; Motown even chose to neglect the timely, driving, significant "Flower Child," which may have garnered some new fans for David's solo efforts. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
