Barenaked Ladies on a USB drive
In an industry first, Canadian band to release album of songs, videos, and exclusive content on a 128MB flash hard drive.
Canadian pop rockers Barenaked Ladies broke new ground yesterday by releasing an album of audio and video content on a USB flash drive.
The release, aptly titled Barenaked on a Stick, contains 29 songs, including band's 2004 Barenaked for the Holidays album, in MP3 format along with live tracks, audio clips, album art, photos, and videos. The album plays on PCs, Macs, and any other audio product with a USB port, as it contains no digital rights management (DRM) copy-protection software.
The always-innovative Nettwerk Music Group is behind the release.
It is available for $30 through Amazon.com and Werkshop.com, Nettwerk's online merchandise store. The band will sell it on its winter concert tour.
The 128MB USB drive is also a reusable piece of hardware, costly only slightly more than a 128MB flash drive without any content on it.
The band also recently released its Barenaked for Hanukka EP through iTunes.
