Info

The Babylon Whores were formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1994, but it wasn't until 1999's King Fear that they finally got an album out in the U.S. It's regrettable that it took so long, for you're unlikely to find a more compelling fusion of alternative metal and goth rock than this CD. There are echoes of Bauhaus on dark, sinister gems like "Veritas," "Radio Werewolf" and "King Fear: Song for the Damned," but echoes are all they are. While the sinister imagery that the Whores employ brings Bauhaus to mind, the Whores are much more metallic and forceful. The moody Bauhaus was never a metal band and was aggressive without being blistering; the Whores are very much a part of metal and can indeed be blistering (although they make a point of combining all that aggression with a healthy appreciation of melody). The bottom line is that while comparisons to other artists are all well and good, the Whores are a rewarding band in their own right -- and a band whose music is certainly deserving of more exposure in the U.S. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
