Killers' singer blasts Green Day

Brandon Flowers criticized the Bay Area rockers for filming their Bullet in a Bible concert DVD in the UK.

The Killers' Brandon Flowers has never been one to hold his tongue.

Green Day's emBullet in a Bible/em. Green Day's Bullet in a Bible.

He's engaged in verbal tête-à-têtes over the years with the Bravery, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! At the Disco, and recently called his band's new album Sam's Town "one of the best albums of the past 20 years." Now Flowers has Green Day in his craw.

The frontman told UK music magazine The Word that he was offended by the band's decision to film its Bullet in a Bible concert DVD in England. The DVD includes performances of songs from the band's smash pop-punk opera American Idiot, many of which lambaste the Bush administration.

"You have Green Day and American Idiot," he said. "Where do they film their DVD? In England. A bunch of kids screaming, 'I don't want to be an 'American Idiot.' I saw it as a very negative thing towards Americans. It really lit a fire in me."

Flowers compared the interpretation of the song to Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA."

"You have the right to say what you want to say and what you want to write about, and I'm sure they meant it in the same way that Bruce Springsteen meant 'Born In the USA' and it was taken wrongly, but I was really offended when I saw them do that."

"I just thought it was really cheap," he explained. "To go to a place like England or Germany and sing that song--those kids aren't taking it the same way that he meant it. And he [Billie Joe Armstrong] knew it."

Flowers said he hopes his band is seen as coming from a more positive place.

"People need to see that, really, there are the nicest people in the world here!" he said. "I don't know if our album makes you realize that. But I hope it's from a more positive place."
