TV band Supernova set to tour

Tommy Lee, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke--and an as-yet-undetermined lead singer--will hit the road in 2007.

Supernova are rock stars, and they play them on TV.

Supernova Supernova

The band formed for the second season of the CBS show Rock Star is gearing up to rock across America. After the release of the group's first album November 21 on Epic Records, Supernova's tour will kick off New Year's Eve in Las Vegas.

The band has three episodes of Rock Star left to pick its lead singer. The group, formed by Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, will choose their frontperson on the season finale September 13.

Rock Star: Supernova saw a slight uptick in viewers for its most recent episode, largely due to the fact that reality competitors So You Think You Can Dance on Fox and America's Got Talent on NBC have wrapped for the season. The show has averaged a 2.6 rating this summer, which rose to 2.7 in last night's installment.

The creators of Rock Star: Supernova are embroiled in a lawsuit brought against them by a band that began calling themselves Supernova in the 1990s.

Beginning September 5, Lee and his old band Mötley Crüe will be touring with Aerosmith on the "Route of all Evil Tour."
