Beck, TV, Heap top mtvU lineup
College network taps eclectic group to perform at third annual event, with Heap and the Arctic Monkeys leading the nominees.
An awards event that doles out "Woodies" to its winners will be headlined by an artist who has taken to performing alongside wooden marionettes.

Beck
Beck, whose recent performances have included puppets of himself and his entire band, will headline mtvU's third annual Woodie Awards. mtvU is MTV's college network, reaching 750 colleges around the country. Beck has scheduled a series of US tour dates in support of his forthcoming album, The Information, which hits stores this week.
The list of performers at the event, which takes place at New York's Roseland Ballroom October 25 and will air November 2 on mtvU, also includes TV on the Radio, Imogen Heap, and Gym Class Heroes.
As previously reported, Heap and the Arctic Monkeys lead the list of nominees with three apiece. College students vote for their favorite acts on mtvU's Web site. Rap-rock quintet Gym Class Heroes is nominated for Woodie of the Year for the song "The Queen & I."
